Description

The monument comprises a pre-Improvement settlement, visible as upstanding building footings.

The monument lies in pasture at around 165m OD, between the confluence of two burns. It comprises a group of stone-built buildings, one of them being a three-compartment building measuring about 30m E-W by 8m. The buildings lie within an area of extensive cultivation remains. The monument is an agricultural settlement, dating from the period before the agricultural Improvements of the 18th and 19th centuries.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is sub-circular with a maximum extent of about 107m, bounded on the S by a road, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
