Description

The monument consists of a cairn is situated on a low knoll on the W shoulder of Haggstone Moor. The cairn has been robbed in antiquity and reduced to a rim of cairn material about 15.8m in diameter overall with eight kerb-stones on the SW. The area to be scheduled measures 55m in diameter, to include the cairn and an area around in which associated remains may survive, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance because, despite later disturbance, this burial cairn still has the potential to provide information about Bronze Age burial practice; furthermore, the old ground surface, which the cairn seals, has the potential to produce environmental data which will enhance our understanding of the contemporary prehistoric environment.
