Description

The monument comprises a standing stone of prehistoric date. It is being rescheduled to clarify the extent of the scheduled area, and to ensure that protection is afforded to the whole of the archaeologically sensitive area.

The monument lies in arable land at around 270m OD. It comprises a granite standing stone measuring about 2.2m high, 1m wide and about 0.4m thick. It is oriented approximately NE-SW. Standing stones such as this date to the Neolithic or Bronze Age periods and relate to prehistoric ritual activity.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the stone and an area around it within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 20m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
