Description

This monument is a broch situated on a rocky outcrop on the left bank

of the Dunbeath Water. The site consists of a large mound of earth

and stone situated on the edge of a short vertical cliff. The mound measures approximately 23m NW-SE by 15m NE-SW and is about 3m high. There is some loose stone on top of the mound and a ruined stretch of the outer wall of the broch is exposed on the N side. There are

traces of 2 possible subrectangular structures at the base of the

mound to the SW and SE and traces of a ditch can be seen on the NE

and SE side of the broch. The area to be scheduled measures a maximum

of 50m NW-SE by 35m NE-SW, to include the broch, the associated structures, the ditch and an area around in which traces of

activities associated with the construction and use of the broch will survive, as shown in red on the attached map.
