Description

The monument comprises a cairn of prehistoric date, visible as a stony mound.

The monument lies on the W shoulder of Balker Moor at around 190m OD. It comprises a heather-covered, circular cairn measuring about 19m in diameter by about 0.6m in height. Although disturbed on the SE side, the perimeter kerb of the cairn is clearly visible. The monument is a burial mound of a type characteristic of the Bronze Age.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains of the cairn as described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 40m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
