Description

The monument comprises two hut circles of prehistoric date, visible as upstanding features.

The monuments are situated in rough pasture, on a broad terrace to the W of Mid Bracco farmsteading, at between 250-260m O.D.

The northern hut circle measures c. 9.5m E-W by c. 9m transversely within a stony bank c. 1.2m in thickness and 0.3m in height. Poorly defined rig appears to overlie the building. The second hut circle measures c. 10.5m in diameter within a stony bank c. 1.2m in thickness and 0.3m in height. A stony bank runs off to the N and there is what is possibly a further structure on the end of the spur to the N.

Hut circles are characteristic of Bronze and Iron Age settlement sites and represent the remains of timber-roofed roundhouses.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is oval in shape, measuring 140m NE-SW by 70m NW-SE, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
