The monument is a dun of the Iron Age situated on a rocky knoll in Killantringan Bay. The internal area, measuring 26.5m E-W by 11.5m transversely, has been defended by a wall surviving mostly as a stony scarp. In places the outer wall face has survived to as much as three courses high. The area to be scheduled includes the dun and an area around it within which traces of activity associated with its use may be found. It measures 50m in diameter, centred on the monument, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a dun of the Iron Age which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric settlement in the area.
