Description

The monument consists of two hut circles of the Bronze Age or IronAge situated in recently improved land on Larbrax Moor. The NE hutcircle measures 7.3m in diameter within a wall 1.5m thick and 0.4mhigh. The other, about 30m to the SW, survives as a scoop in thegentle hill-slope, measuring 9m in diameter with a low wall on theSE (downhill) side. The area to be preserved includes the hutcircles and an area around them within which traces of activityassociated with their use may be found. It measures 70m NE-SW by 30mtransversely, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as two hut circles of the Bronze Age or Iron Age which have the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of the prehistoric settlement of the area. They are of particular importance because they are among only a few survivors of this type of monument in the W Rhins.
