Description

The monument is a standing stone of the late neolithic or Bronze Age situated near the edge of the raised beach terrace overlooking Curghie Bay. It measures 0.75m wide, 0.55m thick, and is 1.8m high. The area to be scheduled measures 20m in diameter, centred on the standing stone, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a prehistoric ceremonial structure which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual practices.
