Description

The monument is a standing stone of the neolithic or Bronze Agesituated on top of the raised beach overlooking Terally Bay. Itmeasures 1.5m wide, between 0.25m and 0.4m thick, and 1.1m high. Thestone may mark the site of prehistoric burials and several burialsof Dark Age date have been found immediately to the S. The area tobe scheduled includes the stone and an area around it within whichtraces of activity associated with its use may be found. Itis part of a circle measuring 40m in diameter, centred on the stonebut excluding and slope to the E of the fence, as marked in red onthe attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a standing stone of the Neolithic or Bronze Age which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric funerary and ritual practices.
