The monument is a fort of the Iron Age on the promontory called Clanghie Point. The narrow promontory has been defended by a wall now reduced to a few facing stones and core material originally measuring 17m long and 4.3m thick. The interior measures 67m NNE-SSW by 25m but only the inner 32m and two small terraces were probably habitable.
The area to be scheduled includes the fort and an area around it within which traces of activity associated with its use may be found. It respects the shape of the monument and measures a maximum of 90m NNE-SSW by a maximum of 30m transversely, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a fort of the Iron Age which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric settlement in the area. It is of particular importance because of the survival of a number of other forts in the W Rhins; the study of this group has the potential to increase greatly our knowledge of the organisation of the prehistoric landscape.
