Description

The monument is a pre-improvement farmstead situated on a smallterrace at the edge of a field of improved pasture to the S ofBarncorkrie Moor. It consists of a two-compartment rectangularbuilding 6.7m E-W by 3.9m internally, within walls 1.4m thick and0.3m high, and a second, smaller building parallel to it to the N.The area to be scheduled includes the farmstead and an area aroundit within which traces of activity associated with its use may befound. It measures 50m NNE-SSW by 30m transversely, bounded by, butexcluding, the dyke to the W, as marked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a pre-improvement farmstead which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of medieval and later settlement in the area.
