Description

The monument is a pre-improvement farmstead situated on a ridge inthe gully known as Balloch to the NE of Barncorkrie. It consists ofa single rectangular building of three compartments, measuring 18.5mNNE-SSW by 4m within a wall 0.7m thick and 0.3m high. To the E aretwo partially enclosed terraces containing traces of rig-and-furrowcultivation. The area to be scheduled includes the farmstead and anarea around it within which traces of activity associated with itsuse may be found. It measures 60m NNE-SSW by 30m transversely, asmarked in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance as a pre-improvement farmstead which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of medieval and later settlement in the area.
