Uploader's Comments

This photo taken in June 2010 shows the Obelisk at Eston Nab It stands at the eastern end of the Iron Age Fort within the rampart. In 1808 during the Napoleonic Wars a Watchtower was built on the Nab by Thomas Jackson Lazenby. This was later converted into a dwelling with a cottage attached and was used as a Lookout Post in WWI and as an Observation Post in WWII. It then fell into disrepair and was demolished. The present Obelisk as shown in the photo was built in 1956 with stone from the original building.
