The monument consists of a round burial cairn of prehistoric date.
The cairn stands immediately S of the B7079 road. It is of bell-shaped profile, with a central mound some 20m across and 3m high set on a platform some 5m wide and up to 1.5m high. On the N the platform has been cut by the road. There is no record of the cairn having been excavated.
The area to be scheduled is a circle 40m in diameter, lacking a small portion on its NNE side, where the S edge of the public road forms the boundary of the area to be scheduled. The area is marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance as an apparently undisturbed burial cairn, probably of early Bronze Age date. As such, it has the potential to provide important information about prehistoric burial practices and material culture.
