Description

The monument comprises two standing stones of prehistoric date.

The stones stand on a prominent area of ground in an arable field at around 120m OD overlooking Loch Leven to the S. Both are substantial undressed boulders. Although no other stones are visible their disposition and topography suggests that they may represent the remains of a former stone circle. Such sites were focal points for burial and ritual activities long after their emplacement in the Neolithic and Bronze Age. There are records of discoveries of bones and the remains of cists from the same field.

The area to be scheduled encompasses the standing stones and an area around them in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 30m as marked in red on the accompanying map.
