Description

The monument comprises an enclosed settlement of prehistoric date, visible as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 120m OD. It comprises a D-shaped enclosure defined by a single ditch, measuring about 280m NNW-SSE by 150m transversely. The ditch measures about 4m in width. There is an entrance at the NE of the enclosure and a possible second entrance at the SW. The SE corner of the enclosure has been slightly truncated by a gas pipeline.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is irregular in shape, measuring 340m from its northernmost point to its southernmost point by a maximum of 230m E-W, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.

The track of the pipeline within the scheduled area is excluded from the scheduling to enable minor repair and alterations without the need for scheduled monument consent.
