Description

The monument comprises a souterrain of prehistoric date, visible as a cropmark on oblique aerial photographs.

The monument lies in arable farmland at around 160m OD. It comprises a single curved souterrain measuring about 11m long by about 2m wide. Souterrains are semi-subterranean structures generally regarded as having been used for storage in later prehistory. They were generally associated with above-ground domestic buildings, the remains of which may be expected to survive in the immediate vicinity.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is circular with a diameter of 45m, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
