Description

This monument consists of a prehistoric chambered cairn on sloping moorland above Loch Calder.

The chambered cairn measures 23m N-S by 21m E-W. It is a heather- and turf-covered mound with a maximum height of 1.7m. Traces of some of

the stones which formed the passageway and chamber protrude through

the top of the mound. The entrance to the chamber is from the SE and about 6m long. The chamber is about 8m long and is divided into 3 compartments, 3m, 3.5m and 2m long respectively. Stone has been

removed at some time in the past from the E area of the cairn.

The area to be scheduled measures 75m E-W by 55m N-S, to include the chambered cairn and an area around in which traces of activities associated with its construction and use may survive, as shown in red

on the attached map.
