The monument comprises a dun, probably dating to the first millenniun AD, which is situated on the top of a natural knoll with good prospects of the sea.
The dun is circular on plan and measures about 14m internally within grass-covered stone walls (4m wide and up to 0.5m high); the entrance is likely to be on the SE. On the E, where the natural approaches are least steep, is a low grass-covered wall cutting off the approach. Former partial excavations of the dun recovered midden material, human bones, a quern fragment and pieces of haematite.
The area to be scheduled is irregular on plan and measures up to 90m from NW to SE by 60m transversely, to include the dun and an area around in which associated remains are likely to survive.

The monument is of national importance because it has a well defined field characteristics and, despite earlier partial excavations, has the potential to provide information about later iron age society in Scotland, particularly the unresolved issue of the place of Arran in Early Historic society.
