The monument consists of an area of hillside on which are located four well-preserved, and at least eight poorly-preserved, scooped platforms representing the sites of prehistoric houses. Also included are at least twelve small cairns on the flatter ground below the settlement. The area to be scheduled is of irregular shape, bounded
on the S by the fenceline of the Elvanfoot-Leadhills road and otherwise as delineated in red on the attached plan.

The monument is of national importance as a typical example of a larger unenclosed platform settlement. Although it has undergone some limited agricultural damage, enough of the monument is well-preserved to justify scheduling of the whole. Of particular interest is the juxtaposition of a group of clearance cairns on flat ground below the settlement, and these are included as being of potentially contemporary date.
