The monument is an enclosed settlement of the Iron Age, some 2000 to 2500 years old, occupying the flat top of a natural knoll, and measuring c 60m N-S by 50m transversely. The enclosure is defined by a slight scarped bank. There are traces of structures in the interior. The area to be scheduled is circular and measures 100m in diameter, as marked in red on the attached map. The recent dry stone dyke which crosses the monument is specifically excluded from the scheduling.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved enclosed settlement which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric settlement and agricultural practices. It is of particular importance because of the proximity of the fort at Springfield, to the S; together the monuments have the potential to increase our knowledge of the organisation and development of the prehistoric landscape.
