The monument consists of a number of small Post-Medieval houses and other features. At least four small rectangular houses survive and there are traces of two additional possible rectangular buildings. These buildings vary in size from 6 by 4m to 27 by 7m. There are also possible linear earthworks on this site.
This would appear to represent part of a 'cottar town', many of which were destroyed during the Clearances of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The complexity of the remains may indicate that the site was occupied over a long period of time.
The area to be scheduled measures a maximum of 600m N-S by 250m E-W, to include the rectangular buildings, linear earthworks and other structures, as shown in red on the attached map.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to contribute to an understanding of medieval and post medieval settlement and agriculture and also the process of clearance in this area of Sutherland. The site is one of an important group of post medieval settlements to the north of Lairg.
