Description

The remains of a chambered round cairn spread over an area of 22m in diameter. In the centre a single slab is all that is visible of the original chamber. The area to be scheduled includes ground in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the cairn will survive. It is defined on the SE by, but excludes, a

fence, and measures 30m square as shown in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance because it can give us a greater understanding of prehistoric burial practices and, through the pollen preserved in the underlying old ground surface, of the vegetation and farming practices of the period immediately prior to its construction.
