The monument consists of a cross base in the churchyard of St. James the Elder's church, Llanvetherine. The base comprises four ashlar-built steps 3.54m square at ground level surmounted by a square/octagonal socket-stone 0.99m wide by 0.85m high with large, incised, broached (or bull-nosed") stops at the corners and cable moulding around the stops and top edge. The lowest step is deeply chamfered on the underside. The cross-shaft does not survive
