Description

A small stone-built settlement, roughly defined by a stone bank, is scheduled - excavation demonstrated later prehistoric occupation. The scheduled area should be extended to include 3 terraces apparently associated with the settlement. These lie S of the enclosure and run in a NE - SW direction, occupying most of the field in which the settlement is situated. The archaeological value of these well-preserved terraces lies in their potential relationship with the settlement, which could be tested by excavation. Such a testable relationship is rare.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of prehistoric settlement. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of associated archaeological features and deposits. The structures themselves may be expected to contain archaeological information concerning chronology and building techniques.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
