The monument consists of a burnt mound, a prehistoric cooking place.
The mound is situated in damp ground near the W side of the Loch of Breibister. It is composed of fire-reddened and shattered stones. It is about 8m across and stands 1.2m high, being crescentic on plan with the concave side towards the NE.
The area to be scheduled is circular, 20m in diameter, to include the burnt mound and an area around it in which evidence relating to its accumulation and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map.

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved burnt mound, a member of a local concentration of these monuments which offers the possibility, through comparative study, of defining the range of date and structural complexity of burnt mounds.
