Description

The monument is a hillfort of Iron Age date, surmounting a prominent hill.

An enclosure some 150m by 135m is surrounded by two reduced drystone walls or stone-faced ramparts. A natural gully entering from the SE may have been utilised as the entrance to the fort, although breaks in the circuit on the WNW may indicate an alternative, or additional, access point. Additional ramparts on the W side, two in number, are now reduced to slight scarps. Within the fort, at the inner end of the possible entrance-way, is a very slight foundation of what appears to be a circular building some 12m in overall diameter.

The area to be scheduled is an irregular oval measuring 190m N-S by 175m E-W, to include the entire hilltop, as shown in red on the accompanying map. Specifically excluded from scheduling are the above-ground structures of the two transmission masts and associated buildings and access road as they exist at the date of re-scheduling.
