The monument comprises a recumbent stone circle of prehistoric date, which lies within a shelter belt of mature beech and pine trees on a south facing slope and measures approximately 20m in diameter. The recumbent measures 4.9m by 2.1m by 2.0m and is the largest known example. Two flankers and one further stone survive upright on a low bank, while a further five have fallen. It was first scheduled in 1925, but the original scheduling documentation is missing and the area inadequately defined. The monument is being rescheduled to clarify the extent of the protected area.
The area to be scheduled is a circle 40m in diameter centred on the centre of the circle, to include the remains of the stone circle and an area around in which traces of activities associated with the construction and use of the monument may survive, as shown in red on the attached map extract.
