The monument comprises the remains of a broch (a defended settlement of Iron Age date), associated outer structures and also foundations of much later, post-medieval, date. The broch itself was scheduled in 1939, but the protected area is not adequate to cover all of the archaeological remains. This re-scheduling rectifies the position.
The broch remains survive as a mound some 17m across, with traces of galleried construction visible in its SW arc. On the S side, two rectangular foundations of post-medieval date lie above the tumbled remains of earlier constructions, perhaps an outer wall and dwellings associated with the broch.
The area now to be scheduled is circular, 50m across and centred on the broch, to include the broch and the remains around it as described above. The area is indicated in red on the accompanying map extract.
