The monument comprises a substantial hut circle, a domestic building of the later Bronze Age or Iron Age.
The hut circle lies at around 115m OD at the base of a W-facing slope beside a stream. The building is roughly circular in shape, measuring a maximum of 14m in diameter over stone walls spread up to 3m wide and standing up to 0.3m high.
Unusually, the entrance is in the W: most hut circles have an E or SE facing entrance, regardless of their local topography. Sections of the outer and inner wall faces can be traced on the N side of the building, near the entrance.
The area to be scheduled is a circle, 35m in diameter, to include the building and an area around it where remains relating to its construction and use may be expected to survive, as shown in red on the attached map extract.

The monument is of national importance as a well-preserved example of a prehistoric building that has the potential, through excavation and analysis, to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric settlement, social organisation and economy.
