Description

The monument comprises a later prehistoric defended settlement, revealed as cropmarks on oblique aerial photographs. The monument lies in arable farmland at 70m OD, and represents the remains of a defended settlement site probably in occupation during the Bronze Age, and perhaps into the Iron Age.

It comprises a pair of curvilinear ditches, each about 2-3m in width with their convex side to the NW, which are all that can be identified of a larger feature. It is likely that this feature would have originally been sub-circular in shape, and at least 150m in diameter. Overall, the site now measures about 50m NE-SW and 30m transversely.

The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them in which related material may be expected to be found. It is rectangular, measuring 80m NE-SW and 60m transversely, and is marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
