The monument comprises a farmstead of pre-Improvement date, visible as a series of banks, hollows and wall footings.
The monument lies on a rock-strewn knoll in pasture, at around 85m OD. It comprises the remains of three rectangular stone-built buildings, the most easterly of which is abutted on the ENE by a sub-rectilinear enclosure. The buildings and enclosure can be traced as turf-covered wall footings, measuring up to about 0.3m in height. The two buildings at the E end of the farmstead are levelled into the slope of the hill to a depth of up to about 1m. About 60m to the W of the buildings and enclosure is a round kiln with a diameter of about 4m, standing to a height of about 1m. The walls of the kiln, in which several courses of stone are visible, measure about 1.5m thick. The farmstead represents the remains of a small agricultural settlement of medieval or later date.
The area proposed for scheduling comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to be found. It is irregular on plan with maximum dimensions of 135m from its easternmost point to its westernmost point and 130m from its northernmost point to its southernmost point, bounded on the SE by a wall, which is itself excluded from scheduling, as marked in red on the accompanying map extract.
