Leswalt, Old Parish Church

A Scheduled Monument in Stranraer and the Rhins, Dumfries and Galloway

Leswalt Old Kirk

Uploader's Comments

Above the door is a carved stone dated 1644 and it is illustrated with the coat of arms of Sir Patrick Agnew and Margaret Kennedy - a marriage of 2 powerful families in the area. Above this stone is the window of the Laird's loft where the landowners, The Agnews, probably had their pew on a private gallery. The old kirk was abandoned when the present church was built in 1828.
