Description

The monument comprises an enclosure of a type associated with ceremonial and burial activity in the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age, measuring 16.5m in diameter and consisting of a low platform surrounded by a ditch and outer bank. A causeway crosses the ditch on the south west. The area to be scheduled measures 35m in diameter, to include the enclosure and an area around it in which traces of activities associated with its use will survive, bounded on the north by a forest track as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved example of a type of ceremonial and burial site with a limited distribution, which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ceremonial practices.
