Description

The monument consists of a prehistoric cairn situated in a pasture field 60m to the E of the Forestry Houses in Ford.

Subcircular on plan, the cairn measures about 8m in diameter and 0.7m in height and has been slightly quarried on the NW arc.

The area to be scheduled measures 50m in diameter, centred on the cairn, to include an area around in which traces of activities associated with the use and construction of the cairn may survive, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance because of its potential to provide information about Bronze Age burial and social practice and because of its probable relationship with similar or related monuments in the immediate vicinity of Ford and in the area of Kilmartin as a whole, which is internationally renowned for both the quantity and quality of such remains.
