Description

The monument comprises the remains of four circular houses (hut circles) of the Bronze Age, measuring between 8.5m and 14.5m in diameter, and the remains of an extensive contemporary field system marked by clearance cairns and field walls. The area to be scheduled measures 300m NNE-SSW by 135m transversely, as marked in red on the attached map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved settlement and field system of the Bronze Age which has the potential to increase our knowledge of prehistoric settlement and agriculture. The settlement and field system are of particular importance because of the proximity of other monuments of similar date; taken together they have the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of the development and organisation of the prehistoric landscape.
