The monument is a farmstead of the period before the agricultural improvements comprising a three compartment building attached to 4 small yards. There are two hollow ways from the plateau on which it lies down to the edge of the burn. The area proposed for scheduling measures 90m E to W by 70m transversely, to include the house, yards, hollow ways and an area around them in which traces of activities associated with their use may survive, as marked in red on the attached map. All modern fences are specifically excluded.

The monument is of national importance as a well preserved farmstead which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of pre-improvement settlement. Taken with the other settlement remains in the area it has the potential to increase our knowledge of the development of the farmed landscape.
