Description

The monument is a well preserved burial cairn measuring 16.5m in diameter and 1m in height, situated in an unploughed area. It will cover at least one burial and others may have been dug into its surface; it will cover a contemporary land surface, under or on which may be preserved the remains of earlier settlement or burial activity. The area to be scheduled measures 60m in diameter, to include the cairn and an area around it in which traces of activities associated with its construction and use may survive.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as well preserved burial cairn which has the potential to enhance considerably our understanding of prehistoric burial and ritual practices. Its importance is enhanced by the survival in the vicinity of other burial sites and of standing stones. The old land surface under the cairn has the potential to enhance our understanding of prehistoric land use.
