Scheduled Date: 13 October 1997
Source: Historic Environment Scotland
Source ID: SM7005
Schedule Class: Cultural
Category: Prehistoric ritual and funerary: cairn (type uncertain)
Location: Fintry
County: Stirling
Electoral Ward: Forth and Endrick
Traditional County: Stirlingshire
The monument comprises the remains of a burial cairn of probable Bronze Age date.
The monument occupies the summit of the hill of Stronend, lying in rough pasture at around 510m OD. It comprises the remains of a stone-built burial cairn some 14m in diameter and about 1m high.
The centre is occupied by a modern cairn, and an Ordnance Survey triangulation pillar stands within the E quadrant. Despite the presence of these later structures, however, it is likely that burial remains dating to the Bronze Age will survive within and below the cairn.
The area to be scheduled encompasses the cairn and an area around it in which traces of associated activity may be expected to survive. It is circular with a diameter of 45m as marked in red on the accompanying map. The Ordnance Survey pillar is excluded from the scheduling.
