This view of the eastern face of the stone facing the road was taken in mid January 2012. It says Frank Elgee 1880 – 1944.
Frank was a Naturalist, Geologist, Archaeologist and former Curator of the Dorman Museum in Middlesbrough. He made a lifelong study of the North Yorkshire Moors writing several books about them. The stone was unveiled by his widow in 1955.
