Flat Howe round barrow and wayside cross base

A Scheduled Monument in Farndale East, North Yorkshire

Flat Howe Cross Base

Uploader's Comments

All that is left is a broken medieval base with one side completely missing and half of another side missing.Rubble has been piled in the cross socket. There is a letter M engraved on one of the sides.Does this stand for Manners? Duke of Rutland who held Helmsley Castle for ten Generations. I could find very little information about this cross and is not mentioned in any of the books that you can buy regarding the Crosses of the North Yorkshire Moors. This Photo was taken in January 2012
