Stone Alignment on Earthwork

Uploader's Comments

Along the Earthwork which extends for about a Kilometre running roughly north/south there is an alignment of stones. These are thought to have acted as an ancient boundary marker with other material used to fill in between the stones creating a wall effect. This view taken in March 2012 is towards the northern edge of the earthwork where it is beginning to peter out.
The stones are known locally as The Bridestones which can be a bit confusing at times as there are other stones on the North Yorkshire Moors called Bridestones - At Dovedale, Bilsdale and Sleights Moor. I believe the name originates from an old Norse word meaning "Edge Stones"
