Castle Hill motte and ditch system, Oldcastle

A Scheduled Monument in Bronington, Wrexham (Wrecsam)

Motte site cleared of trees 17th October 2013

Uploader's Comments

Myself and Bert from Horse Power Forestry cleared the motte of all trees within its boundary over the last few weeks. The general outline of the boundary and the profiles of the flanks, ditches, and earthworks are now more clearly visible than at any time in the last fifty years. The site is very difficult to walk on now that there is a large amount of timber and brash laid on it. That, coupled with extremely steep and slippy banks with long drops on the northern slopes, makes this a difficult site to access, as well as being on private land.
