Roppa Cross South

Uploader's Comments

The cross or what remains of it now stands some distance away from the track on open moorland. The main route across this part of the moors known as the Via Magna used to run beside the cross which acted as a waymarker. Its original height was 6ft 5 inches , now it is in pieces with part of the original shaft stuck into the medieval base and the ancient wheelhead with the carving of the Maltese cross balanced on top
