The monument comprises the remains of a series of huts and terraced fields situated on the SW slopes of Pen-y-Gaer. They are itemised as: A - a group of three round huts at SH 4264 4520; B - an enclosed hut settlement at SH 4267 4514; C - an enclosed hut settlement at SH 4272 4511; D - a platform house at SH 4279 4506; and E - the field system surrounding the settlement sites.
The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of later prehistoric defensive organisation and settlement. The site forms an important element within the wider later prehistoric context and within the surrounding landscape. The site is well preserved and retains considerable archaeological potential. There is a strong probability of the presence of evidence relating to chronology, building techniques and functional detail.
