Description

The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead. The site is essentially a U-shaped ditch enclosing a level rectangular area measuring 110m (NNW-SSE) by 80m max within which lies a coeval ditched mound. The ditch is still well preserved on the N and E having a depth of about 1m but on the W side it has been almost completely ploughed out and is now visible only as a slight linear depression towards the N end.

The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval settlement. The monument is well preserved and is an important relic of the medieval landscape. It retains significant archaeological potential, with a strong probability of the presence of intact archaeological deposits and structural evidence.

The scheduled area comprises the remains described and areas around them within which related evidence may be expected to survive.
