The monument comprises a promontory fort of prehistoric date, visible as a series of upstanding earthworks. It is in the care of the Scottish Ministers and is being re-scheduled to clarify the extent of the protected area.
The monument lies on the edge of a steep coastal slope, at around 25m OD. It comprises a sub-square promontory fort with internal dimensions of about 42m N-S by about 44m transversely. The fort is defined on the NW, NE and SE sides by two earthen ramparts measuring up to about 1m high and 2m wide. The ramparts stand on either side of a medial ditch measuring about 10m wide and up to about 3.5m deep. On the SW, defence is provided by the steep coastal slope. Forts of this type are characteristic of the Iron Age.
The area to be scheduled comprises the remains described and an area around them within which related material may be expected to survive. It is sub-rectangular in plan, with maximum dimensions of 82m NW-SE by 55m NE-SW, as marked in red on the accompanying map. The area proposed for scheduling is identical to that in the care of the Scottish Ministers.
