The monument comprises the remains of a galleried dun or semi-broch on Ardtreck Point on the Isle of Skye.
The dun is D-shaped in plan and occupies the highest point of a sharply sloping isolated rocky knoll on the clifftop. An outer defensive wall averaging 2.15m thick runs along the top of the landward side of the knoll and has an entrance on its SE side. The dun has an entrance on its E side 0.95m wide and 1.45m high and its wall at this point still stands 2.4m high. Dr Euan MacKie undertook some limited excavation of this site in 1964-65 and charcoal retrieved from the rubble foundation platform of the dun was carbon dated to 115 BC. Evidence for a secondary occupation dated to the 2nd century AD by Roman pottery sherds was also recovered.
The area to be scheduled includes the whole top of the knoll outcrop and is an irregular D-shape on plan, measuring 44m NNW-SSE by 32m NE-SW as indicated in red on the plan.

The monument is of national importance as an example of a well preserved galleried dun or semi-broch. Despite limited excavation, it retains considerable potential to provide information relating to Iron Age domestic and defensive architecture and contemporary economic and environmental conditions.
