Description

The monument consists of the remains of a prehistoric burial cairn. The cairn, which stands on an open slope of SW aspect, is circular, about 20m in diameter and 1.5m high. It appears to be undisturbed, and almost certainly conceals prehistoric burials of Neolithic or (less likely) Bronze Age period. The area to be scheduled is circular, 40m in diameter, to include the cairn and an area around it in which evidence relating to its construction and use may survive, as marked in red on the accompanying map.

Statement of Scheduling

The monument is of national importance as a possibly undisturbed burial cairn which may contain information, accessible to excavation and analysis, relating to prehistoric burial practices and ritual beliefs. The body of the cairn may seal old ground surfaces which could provide information about changing land-use and agricultural economy prior to the cairn?s construction.
